Who we are
hv design is a Vancouver-based residential design studio. We reject the "cookie-cutter" approach in favour of a design process based on logic and intent. We view every project as a specific solution to a specific set of constraints: your site, your needs, and the regulatory environment.
Our Methodology Our workflow follows a deliberate path from concept to construction:
Analysis: Rigorous site analysis and client briefing.
Concept: Development of the Parti Diagram.
Visualization: 3D modeling to explore form, materiality, and atmosphere.
Execution: Technical documentation, consultant coordination, and Building Permit (BP) submission.
Realization: Ongoing site visits during construction to ensure quality.
Philosophy: Purpose. Process. Place.
1. Purpose (The Concept) Everything begins with rigorous site analysis. We analyze the physical aspects of your land and merge that data with your specific requirements. This rationale is synthesized into a concept, visualized through a Parti Diagram. This diagram is a simple, multi-step 2D drawing that maps the relationship between your needs, your desires, and the site conditions. It provides a visual logic for the placement of spaces and their connections, ensuring every design move has a calculated reason behind it.
2. Process (The Execution) With the parti established, we move into 3D modeling. We use this phase to test the concept, exploring variations in materiality and "feel" to refine the design. Once the visualization is approved, we transition to technical documentation (construction drawings). We coordinate with the necessary consultants and manage the Building Permit submission, continuing our involvement through site visits to ensure the design intent is maintained during construction.
3. Place (The Result) Place is the outcome of this process. It is the point where the design settles into its environment and becomes a functional backdrop for life. By adhering to a clear purpose and a rigorous process, we deliver a home that is grounded, meaningful, and responsive to its context.
